The abortion pill and Plan B are different drugs that are used for different purposes: the abortion pill terminates an established pregnancy, while Plan B prevents ovulation or implantation of a pregnancy.

The Abortion Pill
The abortion pill, also known as a “medical abortion,” is a combination of two powerful drugs that work together to terminate and expel a pregnancy from your uterus.
These drugs are only FDA-approved if your pregnancy is 10 weeks gestation or under—so if you’re considering this option, it’s essential to get an ultrasound to find out your pregnancy’s gestational age. If you take these drugs and your pregnancy is further along, you’re at a greater risk of experiencing potentially life-threatening complications.
Plan B
Plan B, also known as the “morning-after pill,” is intended to be used as an emergency contraceptive only—not a routine method of birth control.
Plan B works by preventing ovulation (when your egg is released from the ovary), but it can also prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine lining.
Plan B works best when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex (within 120 hours).
I Think I Might Be Pregnant. Now What?
If you’re worried you might be pregnant, the first step is to take a pregnancy test. While pregnancy tests are cheap and widely available at most drug stores, we offer free pregnancy testing at our clinic.
If your results are positive, getting an ultrasound is the next step. This simple scan will not only confirm that you are, in fact, pregnant, but it will also give you the essential details you need to know to stay safe. We offer free, limited ultrasounds as well.
